Anorexia Nervosa
Who gets Anorexia?
Most anyone can develop Anorexia. Statistics show though that a large percentage is mostly young white middle class girls between the ages of 12-18. The numbers have lowered in recent years though and more and more young girls between the ages of 6-11 are developing this disorder.
The disorder can also be found in other races and also males. Anorexia does not discriminate between race age or gender I think it is just most commonly found in young white females because they are the ones who have the most access to help.
What is Anorexia?
The main characteristic is the preoccupation with food and a refusal to maintain minimally normal body weight. Many will develop food rituals or make elaborate meals for themselves and eat very little or nothing at all. Calorie counting is a large factor in this disorder. Many tend to fast or eat under 1,000 calories per day or fast for days at a time.
Also the sufferer will see themselves as fat even though they may be severely underweight. Often nails and hair will become thin and brittle, limbs will feel cold and skin turns dry and yellow.
How is the weight lost?
Most eat under 1,000 calories and only eat low calorie foods such as fruits, veg, popcorn, diet drinks and soda's, coffee, and tea. Many shy away from meats and cheeses but only a few are strictly vegetarian or vegan.

Bulimia Nervosa
_Who?
This is basically the same as Anorexia....
What is Bulimia?
Bulimia often begins as Binge Eating Disorder or as Anorexia Nervosa. It is characterized by the cycle of binging on massive amounts of food often ranging from 1000 to 3000 calories in one setting. Once the binge is finished a great amount of guilt is felt and the sufferer will then find ways to purge the food whether by vomiting, laxitives, exercise or fasting.
How is the weight lost?
Most bulimics do not lose the weight because in most cases they cannot get rid of all of the food or calories that they consumed which makes bulimia very hard to diagnose because of most sufferers being in a healthy weight range.
